Strategic significance: Chenab hydel project set to get green clearance

India has greenlit the 1,856-MW Sawalkot hydroelectric project on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir, a significant move following the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. This run-of-the-river project, estimated at Rs 31,380 crore, aims to boost India's hydropower generation capacity and better utilize its share of western river waters.
